• 1. Successfully Complete "Prevention 101"

  It should take about an hour to successfully complete this online training course.  To do so you will need to create an account at the Indiana Prevention Resource Center (IPRC), sign in to their training portal and then register for "Prevention 101" by finding it under their “Available Trainings” tab.  After successfully passing their 10 question quiz, print or save a copy of your certificate and send it to us so that we can provide you access to our project management website.  The IPRC website is:

• 3. Our Work Plan

  We use a strategic planning process to create a detailed annual work plan and we make it available to our members through our project management website.  New members will receive personal training on accessing that tool once they complete the "Prevention 101" course.
  
  

  Our 2018 plan has two primary goals:

  1. Increase Community Collaboration
  2. Reduce Youth Substance Abuse
     
     

  Objectives, strategies and activities are developed and assigned using techniques taught by SAMSHA.  There are two fundamental elements to our planning process that may be valuable to understand:

  1. The Strategic Prevention Framework
  2. The Importance of 7 Comprehensive Strategies

   

  1. The Strategic Prevention Framework

  The SPF is a 5-step planning process for preventing substance use and misuse that is guided by two principles.

   

  The 5 steps of the SPF are:

  1. Assess Needs: What is the problem, and how can I learn more?
  2. Build Capacity: What do I have to work with?
  3. Plan: What should I do and how should I do it?
  4. Implement: How can I put my plan into action?
  5. Evaluate: Is my plan succeeding?

   

  The SPF also includes two guiding principles:

  1. Cultural competence: The ability to interact effectively with members of diverse population
  2. Sustainability: The process of achieving and maintaining long-term results

  2. The Importance of 7 Comprehensive Strategies

• 4. Committees

  We normally work with five standing committees:
  
  

  1. Executive Committee.  This committee is filled through an election by the membership and is responsible for all aspects of MARPC.
     
     
  2. Assessment and Evaluation Committee.  This committee helps gather and analyze data so that we’re working on the problems the Manhattan area needs to solve.  It also works to identify potential partners and resources that are available to help.
     
     
  3. Strategic Planning Committee.  This committee should have the expertise to develop comprehensive plans to attack any specific problem.
     
     
  4. Capacity Committee.  This committee helps make us strong and effective by: Increasing participation and membership; building leadership; enhancing cultural competence; improving organization management and development; and sustaining support for the future.
     
     
  5. Communication Committee.  This committee helps collect and distribute the best and most current information about the issues and solutions within our community. Its job description includes the roles of: Public Relations, Media, Website, Social Media, External Training & Learning.
